TNT Network Puts a ThoRN in the Series, HawthoRNe

Synopsis
Jada Pinkett Smith plays Christina Hawthorne who is a compassionate and headstrong Chief Nursing Officer heading up a group of dedicated nurses at Richmond Trinity Hospital and eventually becomes the Chief Operating Officer (COO).  If you or someone you love is sick and is in the hospital, Christina is the type of nurse that you want on your side because she fights for her patients and refuses to let them get lost in the shuffle.

What is more, Hawthorne as Christina is affectionately called, even takes on the doctors as well as administrators who are distracted, overworked, or just unable to see the human being behind the hospital chart. Whether showing humanity to a homeless woman, trying to talk a suicidal cancer patient off a ledge or exposing a doctor's near-fatal error, Hawthorne will do everything in her power to help her patients.
When a patient's care is at risk, she doesn't hesitate to overstep boundaries, defend her staff or stand up to administrators who seem to have forgotten a hospital's true purpose.

Although Christiana spends long days at the hospital lending a helping hand to others, her generosity and caring heart eventually takes a toll on her personal life.  Christina is a recent window, as her husband died one year ago after a battle with cancer, leaving her to raise a clever yet rebellious teen-age daughter on her own. While trying to cope with the loss of her husband, becoming a single parent, and taking great care of others, at the end of the day, Hawthorne always seems to let someone get lost in the shuffle:  herself.

What’s Really Going On?
The first two seasons of the series averaged just over 3 million viewers each.  However, season three premiered with 2.57 million viewers and did not surpass 3 million viewers during the entire season.  After three exciting and dramatic seasons, and an even more dramatic and sizzling third season, HawthoRNe has been canceled. According to the article, TNT Cancels ‘Hawthorne’, “TNT truly appreciates the tremendous dedication of everyone involved in 'Hawthorne.' The series gave TNT the opportunity to work with many outstanding people, including Jada Pinkett Smith and the rest of the show's talented cast, crew, producers and writers.”  Season three of HawthoRNe premiered on June 14, 2011 and ended on a cliffhanger on August 16, 2011.
Patiently awaiting season four, fans including myself, are extremely upset and infuriated that the network has canceled the series, especially with how the season finale ended.

In my opinion, how can the series bring on a co-star such as Marc Anthony, Christina Hawthorne’s ‘muy caliente’ side love interest, and TNT not order a new season?  The series also starred Michael Vartan (Tom) and Vanessa Lengies (Nurse Kelly) and other cast members such as Hannah Hodson (Camille) and Derek Luke (Myles), just to name a few. Season three was by far the best season of HawthoRNe and TNT is not only making a big mistake by canceling the show, but is also disappointing its loyal viewers of the network.

Season Two Finale Cliffhanger
If you too, are disappointed in TNT’s decision to cancel HawthoRNe, why don’t you Share In The BlogLedge and post your sentiments about this topic.

  1. As a faithful viewer, I hate to see the show cancelled. However, I think there was a deeper issue than just canceling the show just to cancel it. I think I read somewhere in an article that Jada wanted to spend more time with her family for a logical reason. If they were to continue the show without Jada, it wouldn't have been the same.

  2. Great Writer; thank you for expressing exactly how we feel. I am disappointed that TNT has not placed a high concern for the loyal fan base that "Hawthorne" has acquired over the past three seasons. I feel our dedication to the show at a minimum deserves a closing season. I am saddened that we are left with the cliff hanger of Season 3 without any regard for closure. I was anticipating several more seasons of great writing, acting and compelling story lines. Unfortunately, TNT could care less about how we feel as viewers. Thank you again for posting this article and paying tribute to such a great show. Hopefully, this will spark interest with the network and inspire network producers to reconsider their decision to cancel the show.

  3. Hi Teresa J!

I was truly upset as well. However, I do agree that there is something that the network and/or producers are not telling the audience. It is quite obvious that the way the season finale ended, it was not meant for it to be a SERIES FINALE! All type of rumors have been circulated. It is now time for the truth!

Thanks, Teresa for Sharing In The BlogLedge! :)

  4. Hi Curdy!

You are most welcome! I agree with you wholeheartedly. Now, either there is another part to the story as to why it was canceled, as aforementioned by Teresa J. or TNT could care less about its loyal fan base that has increased over the last three seasons of the show. I am really considering starting a petition. If I decide to do so, look out for that, because it is not going to be an easy ride.

Thanks so much, Curdy for Sharing In The BlodLedge! :)

  5. I'm mad that they cancelled the show and now we don't have any closure. However, and I might get some disagreement here, but after this past season, I can't say I'm terribly surprised. I was starting to wonder if they had new writers for this last season. They were doing just a little bit to much at once for me. And from what I understand many viewers felt the same way. The show averaged over 3 mil viewers the first two seasons. But in season three it never even reached 3 mil. I doubt its because the loyal fans didn't come back for more. I think its because the story line deviated so much from the first two seasons and to some might have been over the top.

  6. Hi CCC!

I too, am highly upset about the series being canceled, as aforementioned! I do also think that season three did deviate a lot from the first two seasons. In my personal opinion, it was one of the best seasons as far as drama and sex appeal are concerned. However, you may have a point in mentioning that many viewers probably were disturbed by this deviation and felt that it was "way too much." However, I have to disagree for a minute by saying that I AM very surprised that they canceled the series, especially since they had ordered a new season during season three and confirmed that Marc Anthony would be in the next season. I believe it was all abrupt! Either way, we needed closure, because the way it was left was beyond unacceptable!

Thanks CCC, for Sharing In The BlogLedge! :)
